Happy Birthday to me!

Last week, I had the pleasure of experiencing my first annual 29th birthday!  The great thing about having a birthday on a Sunday (especially the Sunday where we set our clocks back for daylight savings) is that you can really milk the birthday - it turned into a full weekend topped off with a full 25 hours of actual birthday!

If you follow me on Instagram, you know the birthday weekend started right as any special event should...

Delicious Baby Bites from Pastry Art Cafe
This was a great surprise - I had mentioned to Tim weeks ago how we needed to get baby bites because our friend, Justin always has them for different things for work and will bring us the extras.  It was such a treat to come home from work on Friday and have these waiting on me!  Side note...all of the flavors are absolutely delicious - except carrot cake.  Why would you muck it up with carrot cake?!  It's like having those boxes of chocolates with different fillings and then getting stuck with the orange filled chocolate.  Just stick with the classics.

Saturday, we had absolutely beautiful weather!  After going for a quick run outside, Tim and I headed to Vizzini Farms, a winery close to Birmingham for lunch and a tasting.  Their chicken salad is really good!  The wine "tour" wasn't exactly what I was expecting - not your traditional winery experience.  But, the wine was good and we enjoyed sitting outside and relaxing.  We also got quite a show when one of the horses escaped from the pen - they were able to get him wrangled back in but it was a little tense when he was headed toward the open road!

Vizzini Farms

That afternoon consisted of some football (isn't the season over yet?!?) - between Auburn and my Dallas Cowboys, let's just say I'm pretending both the NFL and NCAA players are on strike - something a la NHL.   Then, I picked the dinner place on Saturday night - one of my favs - Chuck's Fish.  It did not disappoint!!  We finally tried some of their sushi as an appetizer and I had some great grouper.

Chuck's Fish - also, me trying out lipstick  :)

Side story, I used to mercilessly good naturedly tease my mother about her animal print habit.  You know, something along the lines of "grrrr, tiger!"  It was always just a little bit too out there for my taste.  Well, as I'm finding out more and more in my old age (hey...I am 29 afterall), mothers must really do know best:

Feeling trendy in my new pumps (from Target)!

Sunday, my actual birthday - was pretty low key, but relaxing.  After I insisted, Tim brought me breakfast from Shipley's donuts.  I've said it before, there's something just so special about having breakfast out/brought in.  We only do this on vacation and it just makes it feel like a special occasion.  Probably means we need to eat breakfast out more often  :)

We also did a bit of shopping on Sunday - more on that later and went out to lunch.  Sunday night was spent catching up on Homeland episodes - we started watching it on Demand and now we're hooked!  The last I can remember being this into a series was watching episodes of 24 back in its hey days - cliffhangers anyone??  We're now caught up to the live season and its killing me not to be able to just start the next episode!  We also caught this great sunset at a place right by our house (walking distance...we're lucky, we know):

Last week was a busy week at work, but when I arrived on Monday, my awesome team had this waiting for me:

Edgar's Cake...yummm!!!
So sweet!  Liz & I

Along with the thoughtful birthday cards in the mail, sweet phone calls and texts + major facebook loving, overall - I'm feeling pretty spoiled!

A few things I'm planning to/have already spent my birthday $ on:

Booties
Pocket Camera **
**I have tried to buy this camera TWICE from Costco - the first time they sold it to us.  We checked out and waited in line at the stock place and then they proceed to tell us they're out of stock.  Why of course they can't put the $ back on our card - have to refund in cash.  It usually takes me approximately 2 million years to make any kind of decision on a purchase, so the fact that I had decided, we'd paid and waited -This girl was majorly disappointed  :(  To be continued.

I also browsed the electronics at Target where the salesman tried to talk me out of buying a camera.  He suggested I get a DSLR and I told him I already had one, was just looking for something to carry with me at all times that would replace my old camera from college.  He looked at me and said "isn't that what your phone is for?"  Apparently they don't work on commissions...

Some Kindle books from Amazon
Also, speaking of trendy...Tim and I have actually had more than one conversation on "oxblood" - I just have to have it!  Okay, so I've been having conversations on oxblood and Tim's looked at me like I'm insane.  I'm not usually much of a red person, but this shade just gets me!

I've recently bought tights, leggings, nailpolish, lipstick, faux leather skirt (I really am getting risky), etc in this shade and although I don't know if this is exactly oxblood, I also treated myself to this necklace:

Necklace
A tip on the above:  There's a facebook offer to get the above necklace for $13.  I HATE clicking on offers on Facebook, but I'll let you in a little tip - I still have my gmail account with my maiden name, but this could work for any old email account - or even set up a spam only account (which I recommend - I use my maiden name email frequently when I have to enter an address to get an offer).  I created a dummy facebook profile with that old email address (so if for some reason you've found me as Lyndsay Long and I've declined, now you'll understand why).  I think I've successfully set it so that no one can search me.  I do everything on that profile that I don't want to do on my actual profile - connects with Spotify (or anything else you have to have a facebook profile for), claim offers, etc.  I used my dummy account and got the above necklace shipped for $13 total!  Sweet!

If the rest of the year turns out anything like the birthday weekend...I think 29 is looking pretty "sweet!"

YUM.

WOW.  Let me introduce you to my newest non-guilty pleasure:

Mini Salted Caramel Yogurt with Dark Chocolate Crisps
Less than 2 grams of fat, about 150 calories....and basically the best yogurt I've ever tasted.

After lunch today, my coworker and I were in need of a little pick-me-up and decided to grab Pinkberry on our way back in to the office.  I had never had Pinkberry before and I definitely wasn't disappointed.  They even sprinkle a touch of sea salt on top.

What Santa Brought Me - Christmas 2011(otherwise titled "Products I'm currently loving")

This year, Santa (also known as my very generous family...no little kids are reading this, right?) was really good to me...probably better than I deserve.  I've had a few weeks to use gift cards and some of the spending cash I received and thought it might be fun to share in case you too have Christmas $ left!

A few things I've gotten or have my eye on:

1.  New wallets - which conveniently came in very handy when I not so conveniently lost my wallet on the flight from Saint Louis to Omaha :(  Which by the way - is a real pain when travelling...especially when you have to call and cancel all your cards which ALSO cancels your husband's cards since you're on the same account.  Lots of fun!  Anyway, I got a black Lodis wallet from my Mom and Allen and the gold wallet pictured above from my Dad & Renee!  I've had fun switching them out depending on my mood/outfit.

2.  Wireless printer - The printer we currently have I've been using since high school (I apparently like to hold on to things....see this post.  Miraculously, it still works, but its upstairs in our office and I've gotten a little too lazy to want to walk ALL THE WAY UPSTAIRS and plug in a cord.  I did a little research and found this little printer (which I actually bought somewhere else for cheaper) which has Airprint (i.e. will print from my IPad), has a very small footprint, but still has copier/scanner capabilities.  For now, its on a console table in our living room as my plan to put it on a small table in the coat closet under the stairs backfired...no plug in there, duh.  Its just nice being able to print a coupon or two off and grab on my way out the door.

3.  Ceramic Egg Crate - I didn't get this for what you might think - I'm currently using as jewelry storage!  I made a large hanging jewelry organizer for my closet, but it I didn't have a way to store my stud earrings or rings.  This egg crate has worked perfectly!

4.  Cold weather running gear - Dan and Teresa helped me gear up for some outdoor running during these colder months with Brooks Pulse Lite Gloves and Infiniti Headband.  The gloves are awesome because the tip of the thumb can be pulled back so I can still use my iPhone.  They're also lightweight enough that I don't get too hot.  I don't know if they'd be warm enough up there in Nebraska, but down south, they work just perfectly!

5.  I'm still on the hunt for some perfect black pumps - I go through these way too fast and haven't had time to shoe shop, but its on the list!

6.  Finally...a subscription to Cooking Light!  Just got my first issue last week!

7.  Boot Shapers - I don't know why I didn't try these sooner.  So great for keeping your boots looking nice, plus its keeping my closet a lot more organized.  They're pretty inexpensive compared to some of the other options out there.  I think I'll especially like having these when I store my boots during the summer.  I'd recommend to anyone!

8.  Teeth whitening - I kept telling Tim I wanted to do this, but he thought it was kind of a waste  :(  So, I made him give it to me for Christmas - all's well that ends well, right!  I haven't done it yet, but have at least bought the certificate.

9.  Two words.....erasable highlighters.  Enough said.

10.  I'm really realizing how much of a dork I am right about now....considering #7, #9 and #10 but, I also got a laminator.  I have visions of nice organized labels, something one of my favorite bloggers at I Heart Organizing would be proud of.

11.  This wasn't really a Christmas present, but thought I'd throw it in - really liking the John Frieda Full Repair fly away gel - it has a mascara want and helps tame the breakage.

I also still have a gift card left to spend (thanks Mike & Jody)!  My sister-in-law Amber and her fiance John must know Tim and I too well...I'm embarrassed to admit we've already been through almost all of the Moe's gift card they gave us.  Its still our very favorite place!

One more thing I'm loving right now...

I bought this at Target a few weeks ago and it is DYNAMITE.  I've been begging Tim to look for it at every store since (although I see now on their website its exclusively sold at Target).  Run, don't walk to your nearest Target - you'll thank me later!

Tim went shopping at Bass Pro yesterday which is right by the Leeds Outlet mall.  I brilliantly remembered that there was a Ghiradelli store at the mall and quickly texted him to demand sweetly ask that he bring some home.  I'm a lucky girl because he texted me back..."two steps ahead of you there."  Such a great treat after a long week of work!

Products I Want to Try

Last night I watched a show on Food Network - "Kid in a Candy Store" and saw this amazing treat:

Chocolate Dipped Jelly Bellies

It comes in 5 flavors - cherry, strawberry, raspberry, coconut, and orange dipped in dark chocolate.  I've been on a bit of a coconut kick lately and I think these sound delicious - I usually have a dark Hershey kiss and handful of Starburst jelly beans when I get home as a little treat - this could kill two birds with one stone.  Too bad shipping is more than the product itself...I'll just have to keep my eye out or hope someone loves me enough to send me a special treat!!  :)

Urban Decay Primer Potion "Sin"

Thanks to my friend, Cassie who told me to try this - I have such a problem with my eyeshadow rubbing off by the end of the day.  I've been using Bobbi Brown cream shadow, but I'm kind of sick of the color.  I also started using regular concealer and then applying a powder on top, but that doesn't seem to be doing the trick.  Cassie told me about this and I think she uses the "original" which doesn't have any color to it, but I thought I would try the "Sin" version - it is a champagne color.  I bought it at Sephora yesterday and used for the first time this morning - so far, its been a success!  She also recommended that I get the squeeze tube vs. the kind that has a wand, so I'll pass along her tip - I think you get way more out of it this way and you end up using your finger to apply anyway.  Thanks also to my father-in-law who gave me a Sephora gift card for Christmas that I have been using!

Crystal Light Mocktails
I think I first saw these on my favorite site, Pinterest - I happen to be a big fan of Crystal Light, okay, so it has a lot of aspartame, I'm okay with that...Lisa & I were trying to think of some low calorie drinks for our beach trip and I think this might just do the trick!  I'll let you know if they're good..

Asics Gel Nimbus 12 Running Shoe

I literally had the same pair of running shoes for all of college and this past year when I decided to get in better shape, I finally sprung for a new pair - wow!  What a difference it made!!  I wasn't getting shin splints, ankle pains, etc. Recently, I have started getting those sneaky pains again.  My aunt told me her doctor recommended new shoes every 400 miles - I checked a few other sites and all seemed to be relatively consistent between 300-500 miles.  Based on some rough calculations, I figure I had put over 500 miles on these shoes, so it probably was about time.  I tried on a few pairs this weekend and this is the shoe I went with.  I'm definitely not a shoe expert, but I LOVED the way the ties are not on the center of the foot.  You can see a little better in this picture:
The Type A personality part of me wanted them to line up just for aesthetics, but when I tried them on, I just really liked the way they felt - seemed like it relieved some of the pressure of the laces.  I haven't been in a run in these yet (I actually ordered them online for cheaper than I found them in the store, so have to wait a few days to get them), but I'm hoping they hold up well!
